Location: Delft, Netherlands
Work model: On-site, full-time
At Spiral Hydrogen you have a chance to do something extraordinary: shape the future of energy.
We started with a big question: what does civilization need to flourish? The answer we came to is: cheap green energy.
We are starting with hydrogen. Our novel electrolyzer design, which achieves 95% electrical efficiency (HHV) and eliminates many costly components, can deliver green hydrogen below gray hydrogen costs.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who is genuinely obsessed with hydrogen systems, especially alkaline electrolyzers.
You are someone who:
Has spent significant time hands-on with electrolyzer systems (not just designing from a distance)
Has likely worked in both early-stage (prototype / startup) and more scaled industrial environments
Is naturally curious and continuously learning. This isn’t just your job, it’s your interest
If you’ve ever taken systems apart just to understand them better, you’ll fit right in.
Role mandate
You will play a key role in developing our novel bubble-free alkaline electrolyzer, taking it from TRL 4 to TRL 6 and beyond.
This includes:
Designing, building, and iterating on prototype systems (10 kW → 100 kW → beyond)
Supporting assembly, testing, and validation of hardware
Troubleshooting issues and driving root-cause analysis
Must-haves
5+ years of experience with alkaline electrolyzers
Education in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or related fields.
Direct involvement in:
Prototyping, testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting
Assembly, instrumentation, and teardown
Strong practical engineering instincts (not just theoretical or CAD-focused)
Ability to debug complex systems and perform root-cause analysis
Fast learner and comfortable working across disciplines
Willingness to work on-site in Delft, full-time
Nice-to-haves
Experience with both small-scale (lab/prototype) and large-scale (MW) systems
Background in a startup, scale-up, or fast-paced R&D environment
Intuition for:
Materials science
Fluid dynamics
Some experience organizing workstreams or mentoring others
What success looks like
In your first phase, you will:
Contribute meaningfully to the design and build of our pilot systems
Identify improvements and risks others have missed
Bring new, practical insights from your experience
Put simply:
You’ll teach us something we didn’t know about building alkaline electrolyzers.
Practicalities
Location: On-site in Delft, Netherlands (office + workshop at YES!Delft)
Time commitment: Full-time
Team: Small, technical, founder-led
Compensation: Competitive salary + equity for early employees
Start: As soon as possible
If this sounds exciting, let’s talk!
Note: Due to a large number of applicants we may not be able to respond to everyone. If you haven’t heard back from us in three weeks, please assume we have moved forward with other candidates. Thank you for your interest!
