Operations Generalist
Rotterdam, Netherlands • Full-time • On-site
Help build the operating system of a hard-tech climate startup bringing cheaper green hydrogen to heavy industry.
We’re hiring our 8th team member at Spiral Hydrogen. We’re looking for an unusually reliable, proactive and detail-oriented person to take ownership of important operational work as we move from lab-validated technology to a pilot electrolyzer in the Port of Rotterdam.
About Spiral Hydrogen
We’re building a new type of electrolyzer to make green hydrogen cheap.
Today, many industries, including fertilizers, chemicals and refining, rely on hydrogen made from natural gas. This creates emissions, dependence on imported fuel and exposure to volatile energy prices. Many of these industries would prefer to switch to local green hydrogen, yet the cost gap remains too high.
We recently validated a technology that can significantly lower the cost of green hydrogen. Now we’re building a pilot version in Rotterdam, at the heart of one of Europe’s most important industrial regions.
The role
As our Operations Generalist, you’ll help create the systems, processes and habits that let a small technical team move faster.
You’ll work closely with the founding team and take ownership across areas such as:
grants, subsidies and public funding processes
hiring coordination, onboarding and HR administration
marketing and communications operations
office setup, logistics, suppliers and team admin
finance processes, invoices, reporting and documentation
Some of the work will be structured and repeatable. Some of it will be ambiguous, urgent or new to the company. You should enjoy turning loose problems into clear next steps, following through carefully and making sure important things do not fall through the cracks.
You will likely start broad, then grow into clearer ownership of one or more operating areas.
Who might thrive here
You may be a strong fit if people often describe you as dependable, organised and quick to take responsibility.
We’re especially interested in people who:
notice what needs doing and act without waiting for perfect instructions
are careful with details, deadlines and commitments
can take a messy task and make it structured
communicate clearly, directly and early
enjoy working across many different types of work
Previous startup-adjacent experience is useful. Experience in operations, project coordination, consulting, grants, research administration, finance/admin, HR, marketing operations or office management could all be relevant.
You do not need to have worked in hydrogen or deep tech before. We care more about evidence that you can take responsibility for important, sometimes messy work and make it run well.
