Senior Mechanical Engineer
Manufacturing and Production Development
Rotterdam • Full-time • On-site
Spiral Hydrogen is building a new kind of electrolyzer. One that doesn’t produce bubbles and achieves 90% efficiency (compared to 60–70%). Our goal is to produce green hydrogen cheap enough to compete with fossil-based hydrogen, allowing a 200B€ industry to decarbonize.
What you’ll own
The goal is to take our rotating bubble-free alkaline electrolyzer from first prototypes (TRL 4) to 10–100 kW pilots (TRL 6–7) and beyond.
You’ll join 2 other mechanical engineers (in a total team of 10) to work on the mechanical and manufacturing aspects: sealing, liquid and gas channels, vibration analysis, as well as design for manufacturing.
The ideal candidate is able to build thousands of cells that are exactly the same, down to the micron. And do it in a new, unique architecture.
What you’ll need
Must-haves for the candidate:
5+ years hands-on experience building new products, prototypes, testing, metrology. Ideally in an agile startup environment.
5+ years with production and manufacturing processes. If we need to build 300 000 identical electrolytic cells with micron precision, this should be something in your wheelhouse. Experience with design for manufacturing, injection molding, assembly lines, New Product Introduction is useful.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with hydrogen systems, fuel cells, etc.
Experience operating in corrosive environments.
Experience with rotating machinery, maintenance, stability.
Experience with materials engineering.
What we offer
A chance to change the world, and make it a better place. Most engineering jobs improve something that already works. This one decides whether a new technology reaches large scale and exists in the future. Get there, and replacing today’s fossil hydrogen cuts roughly as much CO2 as the entire aviation industry emits.
One of the best teams out there. Ten people, every one hired after a long search. People who have built before and keep building relentlessly, exceptional but humble and grounded in reality. If you want a chill job, this isn’t it. You’ll work alongside engineers who raise the bar every day.
High ownership. Your decisions will shape the pilot we build, the company decisions we make, and how we scale the technology and its manufacturing.
You own a piece of what you build. A competitive salary and options package make the upside tangible.
